Sixty-five chefs, restaurant owners and other culinary leaders joined us to launch the Bee Friendly Food Alliance. Through the Alliance, chefs and restaurateurs are calling attention to the importance of bees to our food supply, the dramatic die-off of bee populations, and the need to protect our pollinators. Lead contamination in our schools is more pervasive than previously thought, according to water testing data from 20 states published in a national interactive map by Environment America and U.S. PIRG today. As schools begin summer break, the groups urge public officials to take swift action to Get the Lead Out of schools’ drinking water.
“We need a national monument to protect the Grand Canyon area and the Colorado River permanently,” said Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee. “Until we get one, Americans across the country need to make sure the Trump administration doesn’t lift the 20-year moratorium on uranium mining in the region. New mining would be devastating to local communities and to the Grand Canyon itself. This report is a timely reminder of what’s at stake."
